Skin substitutes

Skin substitutes like no other with our advanced polymer technology!

South Africa and developing countries are facing a critical shortage of tissue donors to assist burn victims.

Our aim is to create skin substitutes that have similar properties to the natural skin which was destroyed or damaged to combat this crisis. Skin substitutes that minimise pain during dressing changes, provide the right wound healing environment and are affordable because they are locally made.

We have a range of synthetic and biosynthetic materials that provide wound coverage.*

NANOTRIX

Temporary synthetic skin substitute

State-of-the-art polymeric matrices designed to create the ideal elasticity, permeability to water vapour and impermeability to bacteria needed to provide optimal skin healing conditions for the treatment of wounds involving the epidermis and dermis, such as, burns and abrasions, as well as split skin graft donor sites.

KeraGENtrix

Temporary biosynthetic skin substitute

KeraGENtrix is used as a scaffold for skin cells/epithelial cells to adhere to and use to re-epithelialize the wound bed. This restores an intact skin barrier. The KeraGENtrix acts as a protective barrier against invading microorganisms and any other external insults (such as debris etc). It also maintains a moist environment optimal for wound healing. The dressing is opaque almost clear and when placed on burns it allows visualization of the healing process.

Success stories

Superficial partial thickness flame burn

The patient sustained a flame burn of superficial partial thickness to mid-dermal thickness to the face. NANOTRIX® and Fatty gauze were applied to the patient and left until epithelialisation occurred over the entire wound bed. The NANOTRIX® performed very well. Facial wounds healed. Reappearance of pigmentation was phenomenal.

Mid-dermal thickness hot water burn

The patient sustained a hot water burn to the face. NANOTRIX® and Fatty gauze were applied to the patient and left until epithelialisation occurred over the entire wound bed. The NANOTRIX® performed very well. Facial wounds healed completely.
